Marymount University

    Master’s Level Courses

  • Theories and Techniques of Family Therapy: Master’s level course providing an overview of the major theories of family counseling and therapy. Instruction included case conceptualization and treatment planning from various theoretical perspectives.

  • Research and Evaluation: Instruction of master’s level course on research design, methodology, and implementation. Course activities included on-going research article critiques and survey of both parametric and nonparametric statistical techniques. This course focused on choosing appropriate methods of data analyses and the use of SPSS statistical software to conduct and evaluate the results.

  • Theories of Chemical Dependency: Introduction to the various theories of chemical dependency counseling. Included instruction on the biological, psychological, and sociological aspects of substance abuse/dependence and treatment protocols associated with each.

  • Counseling Techniques: Masters level instruction on knowledge and skill development for effective interviewing, assessment, and counseling of individuals of diverse backgrounds. 

  • Counseling Internship in CMHC: Supervise and instruct master’s level students involved in community counseling field experiences. Provided feedback and supervision of student’s videotaped psychotherapy sessions.

  • Counseling Practicum in CMHC: Supervise and instruct master’s level students involved in community counseling practicum field experience.

  • Cognitive Therapy Techniques: Master’s level course providing an introduction to the theory, techniques, and practical application of cognitive-behavior therapy.

  • Dreamwork in Counseling: introduction to the theories and techniques of dreamwork.

  • Emotion Focused Short-Term Dynamic Therapy: Introduction to the theory and techniques of emotion focused psychodynamic therapy.

    Doctoral Level Courses:

  • Advanced Theories in Counseling: Doctoral level course providing in-depth study, analysis, and critical evaluation of various counseling theories.

  • Doctoral Practicum in Counseling Supervision: Doctoral level course providing instruction and review of supervision theory and techniques, case analyses, and videotape review of student supervision sessions.
